Even in my childcare, parents are to sign a paper stating that I may leave their child walk to school and we have written down a route and the same route daily in case something did happen in those 2 blocks. My lawyer said without this paper, I could be held liable as the school does not call me to say they arrived. Same goes for the ones riding a bus to school. The school garage should also have a different number other than parents to call if an accident.
And also under all car seats, is a card stating who is the child sitting in this car seat, who are the parents and who to call. Is called a CHAD card. It started when a person was transporting another's 2 children and was involved in an accident & the driver died, no one could treat the children as did not know who they were and if any allergy's etc. So even if you transporting your children, your grandchildren, or childcare children, you should have a CHAD card under the car seats & boosters.
Also NEVER put a child's name on their shirt. It lets the "perp" know a child's name and they can use it to call them by name and since children think they know them would go with them......use last names like in sports, but NO first names on a shirt or jacket.
Now teens have cell phones and my 13 yr old grandchild can call his mother or myself when he is in need and let us know where he is at.
In medicine, we call it preventive measures. In life, it means prevent child abuse
I wish ALL parents would take recent pictures of their children, regardless of age.
"One of the most important things a parent can do is to know their child's Internet password. If a child goes missing, e-mails can provide sensitive information that can lead to a timely recovery."

A stranger is anyone you and your parents don't know very well, even if he or she is nice to you or gives you things. Don't ever go with a stranger unless he tells you the secret code word you and your parents decided on.
Never go into anyone's home without your parents permission.
Never go near a car with someone in it. Never get into a car without your parents permission even if the person in it says your parents told him to pick you up.
If you become separated from your parents while in a store or another public place, don't wander around looking for them. Go to the nearest checkout counter and ask for assistance. Never go to the parking lot.
No one has the right to touch you or make you feel uncomfortable. You have the right to say "NO".
If someone is following you, go to a place where there are other people and ask for help. Don't try to hide. Avoid walking or playing alone.
Adults usually do not ask children for directions. If someone should stop the car asking you for directions, don't go near the car. Run away in the opposite direction the car is pointed in.
Never tell anyone over the phone you are home alone.
Never answer the door when you are home alone. Call 911 or a neighbor if someone tries to get into the house or if there is an emergency.
Tell your parents if anyone asks you to keep a secret or if someone offers you gifts or money or wants to take your picture.
If you are in trouble, yell "HELP" or "FIRE", don't just scream.
Five very important steps to prepare in case your loved One is reported missing. This data will help the police search for and identify your loved one when recovered.
· Keep a complete description of your loved one. Include hair and eye color, height, weight, and date of birth. Also include identifiers such eyeglasses, contact lenses, braces, pierced ears, scars or tattoos.
· Take color photographs of your loved one every six months. Photos should be high quality.
· Have your dentist prepare dental charts and be sure that they are updated each time an examination or dental work is performed. Always keep this information easily accessible.
· Know where your loved ones medical records are located. Know how you can obtain them if the need rises.
· Arrange with your local police department to have your loved ones fingerprinted. Trained personnel will properly take the prints and will give them to you for safekeeping.

Education and Awareness
Children Are...
Xtraspecial, celebrate them!
As part of its 20th anniversary celebration, the Children's Trust Fund introduced a new inspirational poster. The colorful poster features artwork by Jane Murray Lewis and Meiji Stewart's Children Are... ABC writing:
Individuals and groups concerned about the rise in reports of child abuse and neglect have adopted the blue cause ribbon as a symbol of this issue.
The Blue Ribbons for Kids awareness initiative is an opportunity to remind ourselves of our collective responsibility to prevent child abuse and neglect. Encourage members of your community to wear and display blue ribbons during April, National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, and throughout the year. Together we can increase awareness about the need for child abuse and neglect prevention.
You have emergency contacts in your cell phone
NEW!
What is ICE? A campaign encouraging people to enter an emergency contact number in their cell phone's memory under the heading "ICE" (i.e. In Case of Emergency). This contact information will allow paramedics and police officers the ability to contact the designated relative/next-of-kin in the event of emergency.
Origins of ICE: Originally established as a nation-wide campaign in the UK, ICE is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May, 2005.

Please Spread the word about this:
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.
If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which onis the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign
The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or pers ons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel andhspital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE."
For more than one contact na me simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference!
Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!
Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest .
