Someone out there has a very heavy heart,
And are struggling to decide what to do,
They know how unhappy and hopeless it is,
As they realize their relationship is through.
Someone out there has been beaten today,
And it hasn't been the first or the last,
Frightened and alone with children to raise,
They feel a need to do something fast!
Someone out there knows black and blue,
That's coloured by the hand of a man,
Always losing his temper and hurting you,
When you fail to bow down to his commands.
Someone out there lives in constant fear,
For their life's and that of their children,
And are terrified and haunted by the very thoughts,
Will he break down one day and kill them!?
Someone out there once thought it would stop,
If they agreed with everything that he said,
Only to learn that no matter what was done,
She still received a slap in the head!
Someone out there has been stripped to the bone,
Self esteem and self worth are now gone,
They've become the main target for all his abuse,
No matter what they attempt it is wrong.
Someone out there needs to seek others help,
Stand fast and please make that decision,
Do it while your life grasps onto the chance,
That your dreams can be more than just vision.
Someone out there must find the inner strength,
To be brave and seek a whole new direction,
There are so many others who have been where you are,
Who stand willing to offer you that affection.
Someone out there who has read what I've wrote,
Is overcome with emotions and sorrow,
Believing there is no longer hope for them,
So I ask...will you be alive tomorrow?
Someone out there must decide to take action,
And not wait until it has become to late,
Please don't let the hand of a man beat you senseless,
Take a stand and control your own fate.

"The purpose of this Campaign is to promote self esteem and self worth, as well as for you to show the world that YOU are YOU!!! I got the inspiration for this Campaign from a banner that is hanging in my bedroom....in big bold letters you can read the words "I AM WHO I AM". This banner has helped me through a lot of tough times."

Last Night {To 'Abused and Scared'}
Wednesday, December 05, 2007
Note that the abuser's gender is not specified. Although the majority of domestic abuse victims are women, it happens to a lot of men (and for obvious reasons, is under-reported).
As for the "dreams the same" line, it can be read more than one way, which is deliberate. The man may be dreaming that someone who is abusing him turns kind, OR if it is he who is doing the hurting, he may be dreaming something else entirely -- not be changing, in other words. 'fraid I'm not making myself clear. Nearly 2 a.m., and the past couple of weeks have brought. . .never mind. All is well. . .or as well as ever. Thank you for being here! xOx Pea xOx
Last Night
[To "Abused and Scared"}
She dreams of gentle.
He dreams the same.
In one dream, bruises fade.
Even scars. No more broken
bones. No more empty
promises. Pulled hair,
twisted arms, and lies, and tears
that are no more than tokens.
Children no longer cower.
Mouths recall how to smile
for real. All work to patch
love together from saved bits.
Take turns working at making
even stitches and sturdy knots.
Takes time. Takes patience.
A Love Quilt needs to breathe.
Has to be good and strong.
Need to let others help.
An alarm shrills. Our dreamer
fights to wake. Throws off
the covers, runs to unbury a cache
of quietly stashed coins. Gathers
whatever, then wakes the kids.
Dresses, feeds, shepherds them
with the help of a mental health
contact to a shelter not only safe
but noted for helping empower
(that is, if you wake for good.)
She dreams of gentle.
He dreams the same.
